IFRC reports progress on maternal, child care

    ISLAMABAD
    The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on Monday said it had made substantial progress in its health programme in the third quarter of the year, by strengthening maternal and child health care in cooperation with the Afghan Red Crescent Society. The progress came about after a decision to introduce an ante-natal service in all Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) clinics, and a post-natal service in selected clinics, the Federation stated in a situation report covering 1 July to 30 September. In addition to the clinics being beefed-up, 838 volunteers were trained in the third quarter through the Federation’s Community Based First Aid programme, the report said. The institutional and resource development programme had focused on income-generating projects and a review of the Red Crescent Society’s internal systems, but the drought operation had been hampered by lack of human resources and the disaster preparedness programme by funding constraints, it added.
