Russia pledges medical aid for north

    ISLAMABAD

    The Russian government has pledged to send almost $72,000 worth of medicines to the north of Afghanistan, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported on Tuesday. A plane carrying medical supplies from the Russian Civil Defence and Emergency Ministry was due to leave Moscow on Friday for the Tajik capital Dushanbe, where the aid would be delivered to Afghan government representatives, the report said. The supplies would later be transported to northern Afghanistan by the Tajik armed forces, it added.
