Djibouti and Libya to train protection force

    NAIROBI

    The interim government of Somalia has sent a contingent of men to be trained as presidential escorts. ‘Qaran’, a Mogadishu daily, reported on Saturday that 17 young men had been sent the previous dat to Djibouti to undergo a 45-day training course. However, a government source told IRIN that 28 men had left for the training, and that “more will be sent soon”. According to this source, they will form the “basis for a presidential protection force”, whose job will be to provide all senior government officials with security. After completing their course in Djibouti, the men would proceed to Libya for a further three months of training, according to ‘Qaran’.
