Meanwhile, President Frederick Chiluba will use the upcoming UN Special Session on Social Development in Geneva to lobby for the cancellation of Zambia’s debt, the ‘Times of Zambia’ said on Friday.
Chiluba was quoted as saying that the government’s expenditure on poverty reduction and the social sector had been negatively affected by the country’s foreign debt. He said that the government had put in place a number of policies to boost the national economy “but debt servicing had continued to swallow the country’s resources”.
