Buyoya says DRC crisis impacting on peace process

    NAIROBI

    Burundi President Pierre Buyoya has warned that the war in DRC is having an impact on his country's peace process. "The search for peace in Burundi is not an isolated affair for that country, it is a sub-regional problem," he told Burundi radio. "However, Burundians will not wait for the restoration of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo to have their own, because they are not sure peace will be restored there soon," Buyoya added. His comments follow a meeting in South Africa with the peace
    process mediator, former South African President Nelson Mandela. The meeting is said to have centred on the restructuring of the national army, dismantling of regroupment camps and the release of political prisoners.
