Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) this week accused President Robert Mugabe of triggering and perpetuating political turmoil and violence in Zimbabwe.
At a news conference in the capital, Harare, Tsvangirai said President Mugabe had continued to allow farm invasions in the country leading to numerous economic problems. He said Zimbabwe's land problems coupled with a ballooning debt crisis would continue as long as the international community
failed to intervene. Tsvangirai said though they expect the 24-25 June parliamentary elections to be fraudulent, a boycott would not resolve the crisis. The MDC would participate in honour of the 27 people who have died since the land invasions started.
"Only for those who have been killed, raped and assaulted in the revolution to achieve democracy will we participate," said Tsvangirai.
