Peace talks resume later this month

    NAIROBI

    The Burundi peace mediator, Nelson Mandela, is due to meet government, army and rebel representatives in Johannesburg from 23-25 May, ahead of the next round of Arusha peace talks, diplomatic sources close to the peace process told IRIN. This round, which comprises the last meeting of Commission Three (on peace and security), is scheduled for 29 May and the rebel Forces pour la defense de la democratie (FDD) and Forces nationales de liberation (FNL) are due to take part for the first time. The mediator is keen to have a peace accord by June.
