The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has given land to Zimbabwe's largest state farming company as part of a move to improve trade ties between the two countries, the 'Herald' newspaper said on Wednesday.
The state-owned daily said that the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) had given the company an estimated 500,000 hectares of land which would be used for farming and livestock. ARDA general manager Joseph Made was quoted as saying that the project was expected to cost about US $53 million, and would be financed by the DRC government. He said that maize, soyabeans, potatoes and rice would be produced. "The project will certainly create enormous business opportunities for
several Zimbabwean companies, especially those involved in fertiliser and seed production," Made said.
