The Lesotho government will launch an emergency food relief program to help families hardest hit by the drought, South African Press Association (SAPA) said on Tuesday.
A minister in the prime minister's office, Sephiri Motanyane, was quoted as saying that 280,000 villagers would be provided with food relief. The government said that it had bought 20,000 mt of maize, which would be distributed under a food-for-work scheme. Motanyane said the food-for-work scheme would involve agricultural production, road construction and implementation of soil conservation measures such as the building of dams.
