ICRC helps 200,000 to access clean water

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has delivered a transformer to the national electricity board in Kisangani, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, so that a water treatment plant that serves 200,000 people could function again, the ICRC reported on Thursday. The transformer would facilitate the supply of electricity to the water treatment plant in the town of Lubanga, in Orientale Province, giving the residents access to clean water after another transformer broke down 18 months ago, ICRC reported. "As the electricity board was unable to repair it, the ICRC decided to donate a new 100 kVA transformer, this vital item being the last piece of equipment needed to put the water-supply system back into service after its rehabilitation with material and technical assistance provided by the ICRC," the ICRC reported.
