Possible HIV tests for asylum seekers

    Doctors in Scotland have called for the HIV screening of Africans seeking asylum in the country, local newspaper The Sunday Herald reported.

    The proposal was made following the release of figures showing an apparent rise in levels of a predominantly African HIV strain among Scots who had never travelled abroad.

    A recent report by the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health suggests that the majority of heterosexual diagnoses were made in African nationals who had acquired HIV in their country of origin.
