War-surgery seminar held

    ABIDJAN

    A war-surgery seminar jointly organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Chad's Defence Ministry was held last week in the capital N'Djamena, a statement from ICRC said. The seminar, part of ICRC's plan of action to improve the treatment given to the war-wounded, was attended by 30 civilian and military surgeons from the country's main hospitals, ICRC said.

    It was a follow up to a first-aid course held jointly by the defence ministry and ICRC in September in Faya Largeau, northern Chad. This course had brought together 24 military nurses working in eight health posts on the front line. Chad, which has been affected by various conflicts in the past 25 years, currently faces an uprising began in 1998 in the north of the country. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded in the fighting, most of them combatants, ICRC said.
