US $15.78-million to combat poverty

The African Development Fund (ADF) has approved a loan of some US $15.78 million to finance a structural adjustment programme (SAP) in Guinea in 2001-2002, the ADF said in a news release on Thursday. The SAP targets sustained economic growth in order to effectively combat poverty. It aims to bring about a significant improvement in the delivery and quality of basic social services, including education, health, transport services and rural outreach activities, particularly in rural areas, where 70 percent of Guineans live and work. The ADF, established in 1972, is the small loans branch of the African Development Bank group. It focuses mainly on poverty reduction.
