Court restrains NBC from closing down private radio, TV

    ABIDJAN

    A federal high court in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, last week restrained the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) from closing down private radio and television stations in the country for not paying a 2.5-percent levy on broadcasters, Nigeria's 'Vanguard' newspaper reported. The court adjourned further hearing of the matter to 28 September. In a separate suit, the court also restrained the NBC from withdrawing approval it had given to Daar Communication (a radio and television operator) to broadcast within Nigeria and globally.
