Namibia withdraws from all but capital

Namibian Ambassador to the DRC Eddy Amkongo confirmed on Sunday that its troops had withdrawn from all of the DRC except for the capital of Kinshasa, making it the first of five foreign African nations to leave, AP reported Sunday. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, on an official visit to the DRC, was said to have given first official word that Namibia had done so, telling reporters in Kinshasa on Sunday that "Namibia has just withdrawn its troops," according to AP. Namibia, which has been backing the DRC government during the past three years of civil war, was said to have the smallest military contingent in the DRC with an estimated 2,000 troops, AP reported.
