Sixty-three die of cholera

    ABIDJAN

    Chad’s Ministry of Health says 63 people have died of Cholera from the 1,528 cases recorded between 25 June and 6 August.

    State Secretary of Health Attamar Ahmed Maryoud told IRIN on Tuesday that with 1,235 cases and 42 deaths, the greater N’djamena area was the most affected in the country. The district of Massakory recorded 13 deaths out of 207 cases, Keri-Noko two deaths out of seven, and in Bol six deaths out of 79.

    Women and children make up the bulk of the caseload. The disease was diagnosed in N’djamena in late June. The ministry, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Medecins sans frontieres, and several other operating partners are informing residents on public hygiene and how to keep water clean.
