Influx of Angolan refugees

The deterioration of security situation in Angola has resulted in a significant influx of refugees into the provinces of Bandundu and Bas-Congo, WFP said. Poor road conditions prevented humanitarian agencies to assess the Popokabaka area in Bandundu province. WFP and UNHCR were able to assess Kimvula area in Bas-Congo province, where, according to UNHCR, the total number of Angolan refugees has reached 4,526. Access to Mbanza-Ngungu in Bas Congo province was still reported to be difficult, due to heavy rains that damaged the road. Some 4,000 people trapped in the area suffering from fever and diarrhoea were reported to be in need of food and water.
