Roman Catholic leaders in Zimbabwe have criticised the government's land reform scheme and backed the nation's judges, who've been the target of government intimidation, the BBC reported on Monday.
According to the report, church leaders said in a statement that people lived in abject fear of violence and that the rule of law was no longer respected. They said that the fast-track land redistribution programme was inflicting untold misery on farm labourers who were made redundant and that even those people who were resettled faced great hardships and appeared to be pawns in a political power game.
