Cholera death toll rises to 26

    JOHANNESBURG

    The death toll from cholera has risen to 26 in Zambia after three more people died over the last two days in the central town of Kabwe, AFP said on Tuesday.

    “We have recorded three more deaths in Kabwe. This brings the number to 12 deaths in Kabwe, while 14 others died last month from Luapula Province,” Ben Chirwa, spokesman for the Central Health Board, was quoted as saying. Chirwa said that although the outbreak had stabilised in the rest of the country it was getting worse in Kabwe. “There is a breakdown of water supply in Kabwe. This is why the disease has persisted due to erratic water supply,” Chirwa said.
