The Ugandan army is now holding two militia groups opposed to Uganda’s ally, rebel faction leader Wamba dia Wamba, Ugandan army spokesman Major Phinehas Katirima told IRIN. “One of the groups from Ituri, composed of both Hema and Lendu tribes, was brought to Kampala to be trained on how to amicably resolve their differences in an armed struggle. Another group is that of the Wangilima tribe who were arrested carrying machetes and spears with the intention of attacking the Ugandan customs post at Kasindi,” he added. The groups have been trying to challenge Wamba’s leadership of the Rassemblement Congolais pour la democratie (RCD-ML) and are linked to his former deputies Mbusa Nyamwisa and Atenyi Tibasima.
