Veterans protest police crackdown

Hundreds of war veterans protested outside President Robert Mugabe’s offices on Wednesday to denounce a police crackdown on seven of their squatter camps. “It’s not against the president,” Agripah Gava, director of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association was quoted as saying. “It’s against anyone who gave the order to demolish the houses.” Reports said that protesters denounced Home Affairs Minister John Nkomo for giving the order to police to clear the camps.
