OAU donates US $250,000 to support peace efforts

    ABIDJAN

    The Organization of African Unity (OAU) has donated US $250,000 to Sierra Leone for efforts to attain peace and help civil war victims and ex-fighters, state-owned radio and television reported.

    OAU Secretary-General Salim Ahmed Salim gave the donation to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah on Tuesday in Freetown. The money will go to the Commission for the Consolidation of Peace and to the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration Programme. It will also help people whose limbs were amputated by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF).
