IMF, World Bank team to review ailing economy

A team from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank will arrive in Zimbabwe on Thursday for meetings with government and opposition officials to assess the country’s ailing economy, news reports said on Wednesday.

The team, including six officials from the IMF and three from the World Bank, is due to arrive on Thursday and leave on 11 September. Economist John Robertson was quoted as saying the visit was an assessment mission and “they won’t be bringing any cheque books with them.”

The IMF suspended aid to Zimbabwe last year after government reforms went badly off track.
