Ex-interior minister chosen as PDCI presidential candidate

Cote d’Ivoire’s former ruling party has chosen ex-interior minister Emile Constant Bombet as its candidate for presidential elections to be held on 17 September, state and private media in Abidjan reported. Delegates at a weekend convention of the Parti Democratique de Cote d’Ivoire (PDCI) elected Bombet ahead of ex-president Henri Konan Bedie, who fled to France after being ousted by the military on 24 December 1999.
