Prominent Yemeni kidnapped

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Yemeni community in Somalia, Hussein Salim Ahmed, was kidnapped by militiamen on Wednesday night. Hussein Salim Ahmed was abducted from his residence in the Shibbis neighbourhood, the local Mogadishu-based media reported. Local residents and friends of Ahmed's had conducted a search operation to try to find him but so far without success, Radio Benadir reported. Residents of Mogadishu have held public demonstrations against kidnappings, which are carried out by unpaid militiamen, either for money or on the orders of political faction leaders based in Mogadishu. Demands for hundreds of thousands of US dollars are usually reduced over time by negotiators from the Mogadishu business community, who pay sufficient money to satisfy the militia men.
