Rebels, army meeting in South Africa next week

Officials of Burundi’s army and those of rebel armed groups are scheduled to meet next Monday in South Africa, army spokesman Colonel Longin Minani confirmed to IRIN on Wednesday. “We got the invitation and we are going,” he said. Minani said this was the third such meeting to be organised: “The first two never took place”. He said his team was not “really enthusiastic” about the meeting, but “we are ready to discuss all issues which could bring peace to our country”. Minani said the meeting would last a week, adding “there will be a lot to discuss”.
