Rains hinder relief effort

Heavy rains in northwestern Ethiopia have prevented relief food from reaching thousands of drought-affected people, the PanAfrican News Agency (PANA) reported on Friday. The rains, in northern Gondar zone, have left at least 30 freight trucks stuck in thick mud, blocking the route for another 65 trucks. he trucks were stuck in mud since Saturday, just outside the town of Debrak, heading to the relief distribution point at Chenek, according to state media reports cited by PANA. Some 96,000 beneficiaries have been affected, it added.
