Two members of the Belgian cabinet have called off a visit to the DRC following the recall of the Congolese ambassador in Brussels over a Belgian court’s decision to issue an international arrest warrant for the DRC foreign minister, Yerodia Abdoulaye Ndombasi, on charges of inciting ethnic hatred.
A foreign ministry spokesman told IRIN on Wednesday that the two ministers, Jean-Claude Van Cauwenberghe, president of the Flemish regional government, and his francophone counterpart, Hervé Hasquin, had cancelled the trip because they felt that “there are no longer the conditions conducive to the success of their mission”.
