The UN Security Council on Thursday deplored continuing fighting between Ethiopia and Eritrea and called on the two sides to concentrate on diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict within the framework of the Algiers proximity talks. The Security Council also expressed deep concern about the civilian population affected by the conflict and called on the parties to respect humanitarian law.
