One million people without health care

Up to one million people are without medical facilities in northern Sierra Leone after the sole remaining hospital closed due to recent fighting between the army and Revolutionary United Front rebels, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said on Thursday. On Wednesday the MSF team (two international staff and a Sierra Leone surgeon) working at Kabala hospital were evacuated bringing three wounded people with them, but leaving behind 68 health workers. Six hospitals and 250 health centres were already out of service in the area, MSF said.
