Peace momentum must be maintained, South Africa says

    NAIROBI

    Sipho Pityana, Director General of the Department of Foreign Affairs in South Africa, said this week the DRC peace process must be maintained. "We have to ensure that the momentum created by the Algiers meeting of regional leaders in April is sustained," he said. "We are committed to continuing encouraging all the belligerents to work within the framework of the Lusaka Agreement. We are also preparing to provide whatever support
    possible to the peacekeeping efforts of MONUC and former [Botswanan] president Ketumile Masire."
