No British election monitors, Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe has demanded that Britons be excluded from any Commonwealth or European Union (EU) election monitoring teams sent to Zimbabwe in June. Mugabe announced the decision to visiting Commonwealth Secretary General Don Mckinnon. Mugabe had agreed to an observer team of about 40 monitors.' Meanwhile, news reports said that an EU advance team had arrived in Harare to make preparations for the deployment of its own observers. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Organisation for African Unity (OAU) said Wednesday they also planned to send monitors to the June elections.
