SADC lawyers condemn anarchy

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Lawyers’ Association condemned the government’s failure to curtail growing lawlessness in Zimbabwe. The new regional legal association, formed last August, in a statement at the weekend, citied its “profound concern”. “The SADC Lawyers’ Association encourages the government of Zimbabwe to proceed with due expedition and diligence to facilitate the enforcement of the order which was made by Mr Justice Paddington Garwe on 17 March which is fundamental to the observance of the rule of law and the maintenance of law and order,” the association said in a statement carried by the independent ‘Standard’ newspaper. In the court order the judge declared the farm occupations illegal and ordered police to evict the veterans and their followers.
