Malaria endemic

    JOHANNESBURG

    Mozambique's health minister, Francisco Songane said on Wednesday that malaria has been diagnosed in at least 60 out of every 100 patients who go to the country's hospitals, PANA reported.

    Songane said malaria patients occupy about 40 percent of beds in hospitals in the country, which he said has a negative effect on the country's economy. "The level of absenteeism caused by malaria is very high," Songane said, who said a malaria patient has to stay at home for at least three days after treatment.

    Songane said the only viable method to treat malaria is to have
    multi-sectoral teams to work on the prevention and treatment of the disease.
