The World Bank approved US $50 million on Tuesday for Senegal's universal primary education programme, the financial institution said. Senegal's "quality education for all project" is part of a 10-year programme to increase the country's gross primary enrolment rate from 65 percent in 1998-99 to 100 percent in 2008-09, while improving learning levels.
The project will be financed by a $50-million equivalent credit from the International Development Association, the World Bank's lending arm for the poorest countries. The government and other donors will finance the project with an additional $876 million.
