Liberia denied on Thursday news reports that it had put its troops on the border with Sierra Leone on full alert, following an attempt by insurgents to attack their homeland.
"There is no full alert and the president has said it is not an emergency situation," Joe Mulbah, Liberia's information minister, told IRIN on Thursday.
ECOMOG and Sierra Leone security agents arrested a group of suspected Liberian dissidents on 22 March in Sierra Leone.
Two other attempts by alleged armed dissidents to cross the border into Liberia had also failed, the BBC reported this week. In one of the attempts, the report said, 55 dissidents led by a former general of one of the armed factions in the Liberian civil war, were arrested. Neither the Liberian nor the Sierra Leonean information ministers were able to confirm
the BBC report.
