The UN Security Council on Tuesday continued its consultations on the DRC, ahead of its expected adoption of a resolution approving the expansion of the current UN mission (MONUC). The total deployment will consist of over 5,000 military personnel including 500 observers. A statement from the Council said "some progress" had been made on the text of the draft resolution, but it was still too early to tell whether it would be ready
to hold a formal vote on the resolution by Wednesday.
