French government signs finance deal

The French government has signed a finance agreement with Burundi, disbursing 15 million French francs for reconstruction and national reconciliation. A French representative in Bujumbura told IRIN on Monday that FF 13.5 million would be used for aiding reconstruction in four provinces, including support for displaced people. The agreement envisages strong participation from the beneficiaries in how the money is spent, he said. For national reconciliation, FF 1.5 million will go towards human rights and the judicial system.
