Mugabe calls on SADC to back the Angolan government

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has called on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to support the Angolan government in its war against the UNITA rebel movement, media reports said on Tuesday. Speaking during the official opening of the new parliamentary session, Mugabe said the conflict in Angola was a threat to SADC's development and prosperity. "I therefore reiterate my call upon SADC and the international community to provide the Angolan government with all the assistance it needs to check UNITA's aggression and bring peace and prosperity," Mugabe was quoted as saying.
