Fuel price hike

Malawi's fuel prices regulator the Petroleum Control Commission (PCC) on Friday increased the price of fuel and electricity by 15 percent, raising fears of an immediate hike in the prices of commodities and services, news reports said on Monday. The PCC, announcing the increases, argued that the hike was in line with the upward trends of prices of international petroleum products. The price of petrol will now cost about US $60 cents per litre, up from about US $52 cents a litre while diesel has gone up to about US $52 cents a litre from US $47 cents. Paraffin, however, has been unaffected by the increase and remains at about US $28 cents per litre.
