Japan to finance port modernisation

    JOHANNESBURG
    The Japanese government said on Wednesday that it would finance the modernisation of Mozambique's largest fishing port in the capital Maputo. Hermito Tembe, the national fisheries director, told 'Radio Mozambique' that Japan would donate an estimated US $4 million for rehabilitation of the port. The Japanese donation comes at a time when the European Union which is Mozambique's main benefactor, is pushing for an improvement of processing facilities at the port.
