The UNHCR said in a briefing yesterday in Geneva that unless a ceasefire was arranged and humanitarian supplies brought into Freetown, aid agencies would be faced with a possible disaster in the capital, whose population has now been estimated at one million. The WFP said in its latest briefing on the situation that any ceasefire agreement must include provision for humanitarian access to all parts of the country. In the eastern city of Kenema, WFP said, 31,940 internally displaced persons (IDPs) had now been registered of whom 20,374 had been fed by the WFP. It said IDPs continued to arrive in the city of Bo and now numbered 2,510. The agency said it had sufficient food stocks in Bo and Kenema to feed the current caseload at these locations for at least two months.
