آسيا: معرض صور في الذكرى السنوية للتسونامي

On 26 December, 2004, a magnitude 9.15 earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Aceh Province on Sumatra island. It was followed by a tsunami which killed more than 226,000 people in 13 countries, according to the IFRC Jefri Aries/IRIN

في 26 ديسمبر 2004، ضربت هزة أرضية بقوة 9.15  درجة إقليم آتشيه الواقع على جزيرة سومطرة بإندونيسيا تبعها تسونامي أودى بحياة 226,000 شخص في 13 بلداً، وفقاً للاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات الصليب الأحمر والهلال الأحمر.

وقد تسببت الهزة الأرضية في زلزلة 1,200 كلم من أرض البحر، ونتجت عنها طاقة توازي 550 مليون انفجار بقدر انفجار هيروشيما، وفقاً للتقرير الصادر في 2009 عن المشروع العام للدروس المستقاة من التسونامي تحت عنوان "إرث التسونامي".

ويعتبر تسونامي 2004 أكبر كارثة طبيعية يشهدها التاريخ المعاصر، حيث تسبب في نزوح أكثر من 1.7 مليون شخص في البلدان الأكثر تضرراً مثل الهند وإندونيسيا والمالديف وسريلانكا وتايلاند، ودمر حوالي 422,000 منزلاً في هذه البلدان.

وفي معرض الصور هذا، يصور جيفري أريز، من شبكة الأنباء الإنسانية (إيرين)، آثار الكارثة على منطقة آتشيه حيث حدثت معظم الوفيات التي شهدتها إندونيسيا والتي بلغ عددها 167,000 وفاة، بالإضافة إلى جهود الإغاثة التي أعقبت الكارثة.
