AIDS appeal

    JOHANNESBURG
    The government of Malawi has appealed to western donors for US $30 million to help it tackle an AIDS epidemic which President Bakili Muluzi has declared a national disaster, news reports said on Friday. “We are developing into a sick nation and economic development has suffered,” said Wilfred Nkhoma, programme manager of the national AIDS control body. He said the money was required for the country’s first strategic AIDS plan to be launched by Muluzi next week.
