Diamond production forecast

Manuel Bunjo, Angola’s minister of geology and mines, has forcast that diamond revenues this year are expected to reach US $30 million, according to Angolan media reports on Thursday. In brief remarks carried by Angolan newspapers, he did not comment on the recent decision by De Beers, the world’s leading diamond company, that it intended to cease trading Angolan diamonds in compliance with the tightening of UN sanctions against the UNITA rebel movement. He said that even if production had reached US $250 million two years ago, “you have to understand that the nation is at war”.
