Mogae sworn in as president

President Festus Mogae of Botswana was been sworn into office on Wednesday, following his party’s victory in last Saturday’s general elections.

In a televised ceremony, President Mogae told crowds at his inauguration ceremony that his government’s main objective would be to fight poverty and unemployment. This will be Mogae’s first full term in office. Mogae took over from Ketumile Masire, who stepped down as president last year.
