Mali elected to Security Council

The UN General Assembly Thursday elected Mali aand four other countries - Bangladesh, Jamaica, Tunisia and Ukraine - to two-year terms as non-permanent members of the Security Council starting 1 January 2000. They will fill vacancies left by The Gambia, Bahrain, Brazil, Gabon and Slovenia when their terms expire on 31 December. The other countries represented on the 15-nation Council are permanent members China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and United States, and Argentina, Canada, Malaysia, Namibia and the Netherlands.
