War on corruption

The ruling Alliance pour la dimocratie au Mali (ADEMA) aims to to fight corruption and poverty in Mali, ADEMA president, Prime Minister Ibrahima Boubacar Keita, said at the party’s congress, held on 7-10 October. He said no one, not even ADEMA members, would be spared, AFP reported, adding that about 15 directors of state corporations and government services were recently dismissed by presidential decree following an audit of their operations. Keita was re-elected president of the party and is expected to run for state president in the year 2002. Incumbent President Alpha Konare, now into his second term, is ineligible for re-election.
