Concern at Mozambique rail link

The Confederation of Industries in Zimbabwe has expressed concern over the state of disrepair of the country’s main rail link to the Mozambique port Beira, news reports said on Friday. The reports said the 300 km line linking Mutare in Zimbabwe with Beira which normally carries up 40 percent of the country’s tobacco exports, required upgrading estimated at US $82 million. Although most of the tobacco is exported through the South African port of Durban, officials were quoted as saying there were too many derailments occurring along the line and that it currently took 18 days for goods to complete the journey.
