About one million out of the 1.7 million registered voters cast ballots in the 19 September election, which was won by incumbent President Ange-Felix Patasse with 51.6 percent of the votes, the UN Mission in the CAR (MINURCA) said, citing official results from Bangui’s Constitutional Court. Results for Patasse’s challengers were: Andre Kolingba, 19.3 percent; David Dacko, 11.1 percent; Abel Goumba, 6 percent; Henri Pouzere, 4.1 percent; Jean-Paul Ngoupande, 3.1 percent; Enock Derant Lakoue, 1.3 percent; Charles Massi, 1.3 percent; Fidele Ngouandjika, 0.9 percent; and Joseph Abossolo, 0.8 percent. In a statement received by IRIN on Wednesday, MINURCA said the population had “welcomed the results with calm and serenity”. The presidential investiture ceremony is scheduled for 22 October, it added.
